Alpha Media, EMF Engineer an Asset Swap

The owner of the KLOVE and Air1 Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) noncommercial networks wanted a big FM between San Antonio and Victoria, Tex.

The company that owns this FM said OK — so long as it could get an asset in a Top 30 market it’s been leasing in return.

Educational Media Foundation agreed. As such, Alpha Media is gaining another FM signal in its home market.

Pending FCC approval, EMF will acquire KHHL-FM 103.1, licensed to Karnes City, Tex., from Alpha Media.

KHHL at present serves as a rebroadcast partner of KLEY-FM 95.7, which serves San Antonio with a Tejano format.

This will soon change, as pending FCC approval EMF will get this FM.

In return, Alpha Media will receive K275CH in Gresham, Ore. That’s the home of hip-hop “WE 102.9,” a 99-watt FM translator that thanks to terrain covers the entire Portland, Ore., metropolitan area.

The “WE” format moved to 102.9 MHz from what is now KKWA-FM in West Linn, Ore., in September 2019 following that facility’s sale to Way Media by 3 Horizons LLC. The latter party had a LMA agreement with Alpha Media allowing them to use the facility at 96.3 MHz.
