A Treasure Coast AM Trades Hands

PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — It is one of three signals serving regional Mexican listeners across the agricultural communities of Okeechobee County, Fla., and the fast-growing Treasure Coast cities of Fort Pierce, Stuart and Port. St. Lucie.

Now, the owner of a station used for “La Ley” has decided to part ways with the property by selling it to the company that’s been leasing it. It guarantees its AM signal remains a source of Spanish-language fare for Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

Port St. Lucie Broadcasting has agreed to part ways with WJNX-AM 1330 in Fort Pierce, Fla.

The buyer is BMZ Broadcasting, led by Brian Johnson. A $75,000 payment has agreed to, with full payment at closing.

Johnson is associated with Glades Media, which recently consolidated WJNX’s “La Gigante” programming with that of what is today WJNX-FM 106.1 in Okeechobee.

The seller, led by John and Carol Wyatt, is associated with Talk WPSL-AM 1590 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., which they will continue to own.

The WJNX call letters date to the early 1990s, when a simulcast with WJNO-AM, then at 1230 kHz, was attempted. WJNO later moved to the more powerful 1290 kHz frequency, where it remains today.
