He’s been a morning news anchor at Audacy Corp.-owned “1010 WINS,” now on FM at 92.3 MHz across the New York Tri-State Region, since 1995. He’s earned a coveted Edward R. Murrow Award recipient.
Soon, he’ll be taking on the role of Director of Integrated Operations at the cable news network owned by the No. 1 owner of broadcast television stations in the U.S.
Lee Harris is joining Nexstar Media Group-owned NewsNation — and at a pivotal moment for MVPD-distributed news and political commentary channels, given the recent high-profile departure of Tucker Carlson from FOX News and Don Lemon from CNN.
It’s a newly created role for Harris, who will be responsible for the development and distribution of NewsNation’s audio content.
Based at NewsNation’s New York newsroom, Harris will also assist in news writing and NewsNation specials. But, what, exactly, does the “audio content” creation mean for NewsNation — a sibling to WGN-AM in Chicago, Nexstar’s lone radio property thanks to the company’s purchase of Tribune Broadcasting?
A query to Nexstar by RBR+TVBR was made by e-mail early Tuesday.
In prepared comments, Nexstar President of Networks Sean Compton, whose career began in Radio, said, “As we recently celebrated the milestone becoming 24-hour news network weekdays, we are continually looking for ways to grow the NewsNation brand across our linear and digital platforms.”
He added that he was “thrilled” that Harris will lead NewsNation’s expansion into audio content creation and distribution.
For Harris, ”It took an incredible opportunity to convince me to leave 1010 WINS after nearly 30 years. But Sean Compton and [NewsNation President of News Programming] Michael Corn showed me that at NewsNation I will be helping to fundamentally change the way news is covered and presented in this country and this is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
In addition to his role at WINS-AM & FM, Harris since March 1996 has been the President of Control Room Pro, a broadcast application development company headquartered in the City of New York. Products include QGoLive Motion Mixes, and Anchor Dashboard.
