A Swift Closing For NRG Media’s Sale Of Six Nebraska Stations

0

As RBR+TVBR first reported in November 2025, NRG Media is exiting a trio of markets in Nebraska by agreeing to a sale that came ahead of an agreement to sell its Omaha-Council Bluffs properties to the same buyer.

That first transaction, brokered by Kalil & Co., closed on April 7.

Alan and Joanna Usher, through Usher Media LLC, agreed to purchasing the following properties:

  • KGFW-AM, KQKY-FM, KRNY-FM, and K241CN-FX in Kearney, Neb.
  • KROR-FM in Hastings, Neb.
  • KSYZ-FM in Grand Island, Neb.

With legal representation by Wiley Rein attorney John Burgett, the Ushers are paying NRG Media $3.75 million for the stations.

NRG acquired the Kearney, Hastings and Grand Island properties in November 2013 from Norman Waitt-led Waitt Media Holdings LLC as part of a bigger stock-fueled deal valued at $70 million.

To make the transaction pass muster with the FCC, the Ushers sold their stake in Grand Island-based GI Family Radio, the Legacy Communications-associated licensee they hold one-third ownership of.

Usher Media’s legal counsel in this transaction is Stephen Lovelady, Special Counsel to Shainis & Peltzman.
