For decades, FOX Deportes and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises have been challengers, of sorts, for viewers and ad dollars when it came to sports coverage of interest to U.S. Hispanics.
Now, in a historic first, the two entities are coming together for the sporting world’s biggest annual event.
With economies of scale through collaboration the key focus, FOX Deportes and Telemundo have reached an agreement to air Super Bowl LIX live on February 9, 2025 from The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans in Spanish on both networks.
For NBCU and FOX, “The relationship will provide the broadest Spanish-language distribution in the United States for any Super Bowl in history.” That’s a veiled shot at TelevisaUnivision, which saw Univision network stations air Super Bowl LVIII on February 11 and revel in record-setting ratings for its broadcast coverage.
The 58th Super Bowl was the first to air on Univision, and Spanish-language television rights traditionally alternate in an every-other-year fashion. For 2025, FOX Deportes and Telemundo will produce separate broadcasts — making it clear that a simulcast is not happening.
Each network will have unique programming and coverage, with details forthcoming.
FOX Deportes EVP/GM Carlos Sanchez noted that his network was first to air the Super Bowl en español in the U.S., in 2015, while acknowledging the role that Telemundo has played in presenting the National Football League championship game to Spanish-speaking audiences across the U.S. “Both companies have played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of the league’s Hispanic fanbase and we are proud to collaborate with Telemundo to bring the Super Bowl to more Spanish-language viewers than ever before in a landmark moment for the league and its Spanish-language fans,” Sanchez said.
NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution Hans Schroeder commented, “Delivering live NFL games in Spanish is key to reaching the large and rapidly growing Spanish-speaking NFL fan base. We are constantly looking for ways to expand access to our games and reach more fans, and this partnership is another step forward. We are excited for the experience that FOX Deportes and Telemundo will create for Super Bowl LIX.”
Super Bowl LIX will mark FOX Deportes’ fifth Super Bowl broadcast. It complements four regular-season games (including a Thanksgiving matchup featuring the New York Giants at the Dallas Cowboys) in addition to select NFC playoff match-ups.
Telemundo’s first telecast of a Super Bowl came in 2022.
Joaquin Duro, Executive Vice President of Sports at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, said, “This collaboration highlights the strength of our network and furthers our shared mission to expand the sport’s reach within the Latino community, ensuring Spanish-speaking fans have access to this premiere event.”
