The Video Division of the FCC’s Media Bureau has approved a Notice of Proposed
Rulemaking that gives an opportunity for The University of Nebraska to move forward with the replacement of a VHF Channel it owns for a more-desired UHF Channel.

The decision allows noncommercial educational KUON-TV in Lincoln, Neb., to upgrade by shifting from VHF channel 12 to UHF channel 27.

“We believe the public interest would be served,” Video Division Chief Barbara Kriesman said in a Report and Order issued September 8 that terminates the proceeding.

Any loss in signal created by the upgrade is mitigated by access to a KUON simulcast partner.

The move adjusts the Table of Allotments to Channels 8, 10, 15 and 27 for Lincoln.
