A Colorado Ski Resort Town Sees A Radio Cluster Deal

Steamboat Springs, Colo., is world renown for its ski slopes. It is also the home of a seven-station radio station group that also includes five FM translators. Pending FCC approval, there will be a new owner for this “blizzard” of properties.


Blizzard Broadcasting LLC, led by Don Tlapek, has agreed to sell the following properties to the Jonathan Ingram-led JWI Holdings Inc.:

Paperwork filed by the FCC indicates that JWI, along with Birchwood Communications, is paying $2 million for the properties listed above and these other stations:

  • KCOQ-FM 98.9 in Steamboat Springs (from Radio Partners LLC)
  • KEZZ-FM 94.1 in Steamboat Springs (from Blizzard Broadcasting II LLC)

A $30,000 escrow deposit has been made to Tlapek. At closing, $270,000 in cash will be paid to his group. The remaining $1.7 million will be honored in a Promissory Note bearing 5% APR, amortized over 12 years.
