The subject of 5G Broadcast is one that has largely involved European broadcasters. Yet there are some in the U.S. that see it as a smart option, rather than ATSC 3.0. At the 2025 NAB Show, XGen Network “XGN” will unveil its 5G Broadcast Exciter.
At present, XGN is working on public safety alerts and first responder solutions while delivering linear program channels and radio stations, all for worldwide deployment.
“Attendees can experience a live, licensed demonstration of 5G Broadcast transmitting directly to a smartphone showcased by XGN at the TRedess booth W4015, located in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center,” the company noted on Wednesday. “We invite broadcasters, telecom providers, investors, and industry professionals to visit XGN to learn more about innovative 5G Broadcast solutions and discuss potential applications.”
The 5G Broadcast broadcast standard delivers a direct-to-mobile platform to smartphones operating independently of traditional services such as cellular networks (i.e. no simcard required), satellite, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
The Spring 2025 RBR+TVBR magazine features in-depth coverage of 5G Broadcast and its development against strong headwinds presented by the implementation and rollout of ATSC 3.0 in the United States. It is available from Saturday, April 5, in the main newsstand area of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the 2025 NAB Show and on Monday, April 7 via digital delivery to all RBR+TVBR Members.
