After five years, the agreement that saw the National Basketball Association franchise serving North Texas partner with an iHeartMedia FM that dropped its Hot Talk/Sports Talk presentation during the 2024 NBA Playoffs with a return to its previous Rock branding ended.
On Thursday (9/3), the Dallas Mavericks confirmed it has reached a new multi-year partnership with an Audacy FM — one that already airs play-by-play for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and MLB’s Texas Rangers.
For those eager to follow highly touted rookie Cooper Flagg, they can tune to KRLD-FM “105.3 The Fan,” with additional distribution of the team’s games via the Texas State Network and The Fan’s newfound availability via SiriusXM, thanks to a recently forged partnership between the satellite radio service and Audacy.
“105.3 The Fan has built tremendous equity in the market with sports fans across North Texas, and we’re excited to bring the Dallas Mavericks to the Audacy family,” said Dallas Mavericks Chief Communications Officer Gina Miller. “This partnership is about giving Mavs fans more ways to connect with the team, from game broadcasts to weekly programming, while significantly expanding our reach across Texas. Plainly put, we want to give our fans more Mavs content, wherever they are.”
Chuck Cooperstein, in his 22nd year as the radio voice of the Mavericks, will call the play-by-play action alongside analyst Brian Dameris for all regular season games live.
Beyond airing broadcasts of Mavericks game, this partnership will showcase new programming, including:
- “Mavs Insider Access”: A weekly conversation with Mavericks personnel, including President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri, General Manager Mike Schmitz, Head Coach Dusty May and current players
- “Inside the Mavs with Chuck Cooperstein”: A weekly show with Cooperstein offering his distinctive perspective on the team, the NBA and the stories shaping the season
- “Mavs Basketball Hour”: A weekly deep dive into the team, games, roster and NBA headlines
- “Mavs Beyond the Court”: A weekly program on KRLD exploring the Mavericks business, community culture and impact across North Texas
“This partnership is an amazing addition to everything we’ve built for our listeners. At The Fan, we can’t wait to keep expanding our multi-platform experience to deliver the best content to sports fans,” said Gavin Spittle, Vice President of News/Talk/Sports for Audacy in Dallas. “Serving as the proud, 100,000-watt home of the Dallas Mavericks is something we are truly excited about.”
Until the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season, Mavericks audio coverage aired on KEGL-FM 97.1 “The Eagle.” The rights agreement came in 2021, and after one year iHeartMedia changed formats. The September 2022 move to “The Freak” ultimately proved unsuccessful, and station management restored the Eagle in late April 2024.
From 2001-2002 through 2011-2012, Mavericks games aired on the former KESN-FM, which The Walt Disney Company sold to a religious broadcast ministry as part of an initiative to sell its ESPN Radio broadcast radio stations. Prior homes of Mavericks radio coverage include KLIF-AM 570 and, during the 1980s, WBAP-AM 820.
The Mavericks’ complete television and radio broadcast schedule will be announced prior to the start of the season.
