The CBS Television Network affiliate serving southwestern Virginia will have a new General Manager, starting October 5. It is an individual who returns to the state that’s “for lovers” after a nearly three-year run as the Creative Services Director for a Gray Media sibling in Kansas City.
William Varnier is joining WDBJ-7 in Roanoke-Lynchburg, and returns to Virginia after joining KCTV-TV and KSMO-TV at the start of 2024. Before that, he served as VP/Creative Services for WTKR-3 in Norfolk, where he spent more than 16 years. Prior to that, Varnier enjoyed a nearly 12-year tenure at WVEC-13 in Norfolk, rising to Advertising & Promotion Manager.
Varnier began his career at WVEC in January 1996 as a Newscast Director; this marks Varnier’s first role as a GM.
