Come September 4, a 35-year career with the company originally known as Beasley Broadcast Group will come to its conclusion for the man who today serves as VP/Market Manager of its Charlotte radio stations.
Mac Edwards has “decided to embrace his next chapter” and will step down from the role at the Beasley Media Group properties.
Edwards has served in a variety of leadership capacities throughout his tenure with Beasley, which has agreed to sell Top 40 WNKS “Kiss 95.1” in Charlotte to K-LOVE Inc. along with a Las Vegas FM station for $8 million.
“Thirty-five years ago, I had the privilege of recruiting Mac Edwards to join Beasley Media Group, and it remains one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” said
Chief Operating Officer Brian Beasley. “Throughout his remarkable career, Mac has been an outstanding leader, trusted colleague and tremendous ambassador for our company. His passion for radio, commitment to excellence, and dedication to our teams and
the communities we serve have made a lasting impact across every market he has led. We are incredibly grateful for Mac’s many contributions and wish him continued happiness and success in this well-deserved next chapter.”
Edwards joined Beasley in 1991, following a three-year run at Beta Broadcasting in Austin. He began in programming and as an on-air talent at WKML-FM in Fayetteville, N.C., and in 1996 became GM of WAZZ-AM and WFLB-FM, stations that continue to be owned and operated by Beasley.
In 2007, he rose to VP/Market Manager in Fayetteville, and in 2016 relocated to Detroit to oversee stations acquired through Beasley’s merger with Greater Media: WRIF-FM, WCSX-FM, and WMGC-FM. Edwards later added WDMK-FM and Detroit Praise Network.
Six years later, in 2022, he shifted to Charlotte, where his duties involve WBAV-FM “V101.9,” WKQC-FM “K104.7,” WPEG-FM “Power 98,” WSOC-FM “Country 103.7” and FM Translator “PLAYA 94.7.”
Edwards has been recognized multiple times as a finalist for Radio Ink’s “Radio Wayne” Award for Best Manager. He also dedicated his time and leadership to the state broadcasters associations in Michigan and North Carolina as an executive committee member.
Concluding his career in Charlotte holds a special meaning for Edwards, as he started his career in radio while attending high school in Belmont, N.C.
“Beasley Media Group has been such an important part of my life and career journey,” Edwards said. “I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredibly talented people, serving amazing communities, and helping grow iconic radio brands across the country.
I’m thankful to the Beasley family, especially Brian Beasley, for bringing me to the company, our leadership team, our colleagues, and our partners for the opportunities, friendships, and memories over the past three decades.
“While this departure is bittersweet, I’m looking forward to taking a moment to relax and spend time with my two very active grandsons, with a granddaughter on the way, before embracing new adventures ahead. I am deeply grateful to my amazing wife
Angela and our three wonderful daughters for their constant encouragement, unwavering belief, and the strength they’ve provided throughout this amazing ride. Their support has meant everything to me.”
It was not known if Edwards’ retirement is tied to a series of expense reduction initiatives at Beasley seen across 2026. Additional details regarding leadership plans for the Charlotte market will be announced in the near future.
