Some 47 Republican Members of the House of Representatives have written to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to express their “strong support” of the Commission’s ongoing review of TV parental guidelines “to ensure that children are not being indoctrinated with radical gender ideology behind their parents’ backs.”
The sternly worded letter expressing the conservative opinions of the House Members was sent earlier this week to the Commission head, and includes statements of alarm.
“American children and families are under attack,” the Members, led by Reps. Barry Moore and August Pfluger, state. “Parents deserve full transparency from television and streaming services regarding unwanted sexual content in programming rated for children, and it is our intention to provide them with the tools and information they need to make informed choices for their families.”
The coalition of House Republicans, which includes Lauren Boebert, cites a Concerned Women for America study claiming that 41% of Netflix’s children’s shows contain LGBTQ content, messages, characters or themes, “yet that content is not disclosed to parents through rating information or content descriptors.
The FCC has repeatedly stated that “Big Tech” and streaming video and audio services fall outside of the Commission’s purview, and there’s been scant discussion on regulating streaming media in the same way as broadcast radio and TV.
That’s of no matter to the 47 Republicans who use the letter to Carr to bash their Democratic colleagues, assailing 68 of them for “blatantly ignoring American parents and actively working to push gender dysphoria and mental health issues onto our children.”
Rep. Moore, representing Alabama’s first district, believes Congress can step in. He’s introduced legislation that would “codify the FCC’s efforts by requiring neutral disclaimers indicating that a program contains certain gender ideological themes.”
The 47 GOP Members of the U.S. House of Representatives conclude the letter by stating their effort “is about strengthening parental rights and protecting American children.”
Moore recently introduced legislation that would require immigrants to disavow Sharia law.
