BOWLING GREEN, KY. — It provides a mix of Alternative and eclectic indie rock to the city that’s home to Western Kentucky University and has been a training ground for radio industry professionals including Radio Ink Editor-in-Chief Cameron Coats.

Now, it has an audio streaming and monetization agreement with Zeno Media, and geotargeted pre-roll advertising is present prior to connecting to the broadcast of WWHR-FM.

That’s the student-run radio station known as “Revolution 91.7” not afraid to play Joy Division at 1:42pm on a Friday afternoon.

With the Zeno Media agreement, Revolution 91.7 will seek to bolster its digital presence while gaining greater control over its streaming inventory, including access to programmatic audio tools to manage and monetize its own advertising relationships.

“College radio plays a unique role in the audio ecosystem, both as a platform for new voices and as a training ground for future industry leaders,” said Nikols Latuff, Chief Growth Officer at Zeno Media. “At Zeno, we’re committed to supporting stations like WWHR-FM as they expand beyond traditional broadcast. This partnership is about giving them the tools to grow their audience, strengthen their digital strategy, and take greater ownership of their streaming and monetization opportunities.”

Serving as an adjunct faculty member in WKU’s Department of Broadcasting commenting on behalf of WWHR is Dr. Ed Cohen, the former VP of Measurement Innovation at Arbitron who later served as VP of Ratings and Research at Cumulus Media from February 2016 through July 2020. “At Revolution 91.7, our focus is on creating a space where students can develop their voice while delivering programming that connects with our audience,” he said. “Partnering with Zeno Media allows us to extend that experience beyond the FM dial, giving our students and our station more flexibility, more reach, and new ways to engage listeners.”

Undergraduate WWHR GM Rachel Comella added, “We’ve worked hard to rebuild WWHR-FM into a station that reflects both our creativity and our community. This partnership with Zeno Media gives us access to the tools and technology shaping the future of audio, allowing us to expand our reach, better understand our audience, and operate in a modern broadcast environment.”
