FCC Silences The Texas Thunder After Years Of Ignored Fees

Two East Texas FM signals have officially lost their broadcast licenses. The revocation comes after no formal response to the FCC’s demand for payment or justification for unpaid regulatory fees for fiscal years 2024, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017.

On May 30, the FCC issued a Revocation Order citing $14,222.60 in unpaid regulatory fees, penalties, and interest as of April 10, for Kremling Enterprises, Inc., the licensee for KYKM in Yoakum and KTXM in Hallettsville, Tex. The stations broadcast a Country formatted simulcast under the moniker of Texas Thunder Radio.

The stations were warned in February to either pay the outstanding debt or show cause why the licenses should not be revoked. No payment or written response was submitted. As a result, both licenses have been canceled, all operations must cease immediately, and the stations’ call signs have been deleted from the FCC’s database.

In addition to canceling the licenses, the FCC made clear that Kremling Enterprises is still on the hook for the full amount of debt. The revocation order does not eliminate the company’s financial obligations to the Commission, which will continue to accrue interest and penalties until fully resolved. The FCC also formally dismissed the pending renewal applications for both KYKM and KTXM, filed in April 2021, eliminating any possibility of reinstating the stations’ authority without a new application process.
