WASHINGTON, D.C. — The champion of the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act in the U.S. Senate and the NAB have each issued statements cheering the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s 45-2 passage of the latest incarnation of the bill, which sends it up to the House of Representatives floor for a full Member vote.
Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who sits on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, applauded the vote in the House E&C Committee.
“With hurricane season in full swing, it has never been more important to pass the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act and ensure that this life-saving communication tool remains in vehicles,” Markey said. “I applaud the Energy and Commerce Committee for its overwhelming vote to advance this essential bill and look forward to working with our House and Senate colleagues to enact this bipartisan, public safety legislation into law.”
Markey, along with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), shared in April that the act had support from 60 members of the Senate, giving it a filibuster-proof supermajority.
Meanwhile, NAB President/CEO Curtis LeGeyt expressed his gratitude to those on the committee “for their recognition of AM radio’s unique and vital role in protecting public safety. As one of the most reliable and resilient communications platforms, AM radio continues to be a lifeline for communities in times of emergency. We urge congressional leadership to ensure this bill moves forward and becomes law, safeguarding AM radio’s indispensable service to the public.”
