The Director of Engineering for Hearst Television‘s property in Lancaster, Pa., serving the Harrisburg-York-Carlisle market, is getting a promotion, and will now hold similar duties for the company’s flagship property serving Boston.
Kevin Kalia has been named Director of Engineering for ABC affiliate WCVB-5.
He reports to President/GM Kyle I. Grimes, and starts in his new role on July 10.
“Kevin is an extremely talented broadcast executive who has been an invaluable member of the Hearst Television team for many years,” Grimes said. “Kevin’s diverse leadership experience in the broadcast industry allows him a unique vantage point, and his dedication to mentorship perfectly aligns with WCVB’s commitment to public service. We are excited to welcome Kevin to WCVB’s management team and know he will be a tremendous addition to the Channel 5 family.”
Kalia commented, “I’m thrilled to be joining the talented staff at WCVB and to continue my career at another outstanding Hearst Television station. WCVB is a renowned station with a legacy of outstanding journalism as well as impactful community service. I look forward to helping advance Channel 5’s news leadership position as well as contributing to the station’s community initiatives.”
Kalia has been in Pennsylvania Dutch Country for four years. During his time at WGAL-8, he secured a grant from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters to fund the acquisition of new equipment for the broadcast program at McCaskey High School, serving as a beta for future high school grants in the state.
Before arriving at WGAL, Kalia was the Assistant Chief Engineer at WYFF-4, the NBC-affiliated Hearst Television property in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C., and Asheville, N.C. Prior to that, he served as Digital Content Manager at Hearst’s WTAE-4 in Pittsburgh, where he first was a producer in the news department.
Kalia began his broadcasting career at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pa., as a news producer.
