In many markets, vintage sitcoms and dramas can be seen on such digital multicast networks as Weigel Broadcasting’s Me TV and Nexstar Media Group‘s Antenna TV.

Now, Nexstar is doubling down on consumer thirst for classic fare by preparing to launch a more youthful companion to its 1960s and 1970s-focused existing offering.

Introducing Rewind TV, a digital subchannel offering a mix of classic situation comedy series from the 1980s and 1990s.

Rewind TV is scheduled for a September 1 launch date, with reach in 40% of U.S. homes.

It will be added as a digital multicast network to such stations as KTLA-5 in Los Angeles, WGN-9 in Chicago, and LMA partner WPIX-11 in New York.

“Rewind TV will be available on newly designated or recently vacated digital sub-
channels licensed to Nexstar,” the company said. This means Rewind TV is replacing Court TV, which is now a part of The E.W. Scripps Co. family and can be found as a digital multicast tied to many ION O&Os Scripps holds — including those in the nation’s top three markets.

What can viewers expect to see on Rewind TV?

The initial line-up of classic shows includes The Drew Carey Show, Murphy Brown, Growing
Pains, Wings, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, Who’s the Boss and Family Ties.

This will complement Antenna TV, will is known as the home for weeknight reruns of Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at 10pm and a prime-time lineup featuring Barney Miller and The Jeffersons.

Overseeing Nexstar’s Networks Division is the same person leading NewsNation: Sean Compton. He notes that Antenna TV’s 10th anniversary is being celebrated across 2021, and to complement Antenna TV’s allure for Baby Boomers, Rewind TV was created to give Gen X viewers a network dedicated to their own nostalgic comedy classics.”
