After two years in development, Cable Ad Net New York (CANNY) has begun construction and installation of its newest business unit, independent WYBN-TV 14. It’s a digital UHF LPTV facility licensed to Cobleskill, Greene and Columbia County and the (Albany) Capital District of Upstate NY. WYBN is the Capital District’s first new TV station since WNYA’s (My TV) launch in 2003.
15-kW WYBN will cover 820,000 persons from the Catskill Mountain Range with a unique approach to DTV: Five video streams and five Dolby audio streams.

RBR-TVBR observation: It’s interesting to note that with DTV, not all multicast channels have to be video. When going with audio you have more bandwidth available for more channels. It should be interesting to see if WYBN’s Hispanic audio formats will fill a need in the market—there are no Hispanic-formatted stations currently there.
