PALM BEACH, FLA. — The individual who last Thursday informed all of the station’s employees that the longtime ABC affiliation will be disappearing come early August has been selected as one of four inductees into the Florida Broadcasters Hall of Fame for 2025.

Bert Medina, President/CEO of WPLG-10 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale, will be inducted alongside Spanish Broadcasting System Chief Communications Officer Claudia Puig, retired iHeartMedia Division President and company advisor Linda Byrd, and retired Waterman Broadcasting Cor. EVP/GM Steven H. Pontius at a ceremony scheduled for the evening of June 26 at the Breakers.

The four individuals are being honored as “impactful, inspirational, and influential broadcasting legends” who have earned a place in Florida’s broadcasting history. And, they include Media, who will be shepherding WPLG into a future where its “LOCAL 10” branding will make it an independently station with local news and programming its hallmark. “ABC Miami” will debut on WSVN-7.2 under Sunbeam Television ownership thanks to a new affiliation agreement revealed on March 20.

Hall of Fame inductees were chosen from nominations by current and former employees of FAB member stations. The final award recipients were vetted and selected by the Florida Broadcasters Selection Committee representing the broadcast industry in Florida.
