WPHT's Dom Giordano to "Salute Our Troops"

CBS Radio’s WPHT-AM Philly daily 9-Noon talker Dom Giordano will host a live broadcast and welcome home luncheon honoring American servicemen and women from the Delaware Valley who served bravely in Iraq and Afghanistan 2/20.


The “Salute Our Troops” event will be held in the main ballroom at the Radisson Philadelphia Northeast Hotel in Trevose, PA from 9 AM to 12 noon.  There will also be a celebration the 71st Anniversary of the USO, which provides morale and recreational services to members of the US Military since 1941. Members of the 131st Transportation Company, the 111 Fighter Wing, the 104th Cavalry Squadron and the 111th Infantry will all be in attendance.
 
Special Guest Jim Axelrod, CBS News War Correspondent, will join Giordano on stage.  Axelrod is a national correspondent for CBS News, reporting for the “CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley” and other CBS News broadcasts.  Axelrod has covered a broad range of stories, most notably the war in Iraq. One of CBS News’ embedded correspondents, Axelrod was recognized as the first television journalist to report live from Baghdad’s Saddam International Airport immediately after it fell to U.S troops. His live coverage of the U.S. Army firing artillery rounds into Iraqi positions was the first to be broadcast by a reporter embedded with ground troops engaged in combat in Iraq. Axelrod also covered the departure of the U.S. troops from Iraq, and was the last reporter to leave with the military in December 2011.
