She has served as Assistant News Director for ABC Owned Stations’ WLS-7 in Chicago since 2022. Now, she’s getting a promotion to VP of Marketing, a role that puts her in control of local programming, marketing and design.
Getting the new post at the station is Nneka Nwosu, who President/GM John Idler calls “an inspirational leader whose creativity and strategic vision make her an ideal choice for this role.”
A Harvard University Nieman Foundation for Journalism Fellow and Emmy Award-winning producer, Nwosu arrived at WLS-7 after serving as an executive producer at Hearst Television flagship WCVB-5 in Boston. There, she led the station’s nightly newsmagazine program “Chronicle.” During the pandemic, she also created several interactive show franchises. Nwosu joined WCVB-5 in 2013 as a producer for “Chronicle” and was promoted to managing editor before taking over leadership of the show.
Prior to WCVB-5, Nwosu, who completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University and holds a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia University, served as a reporter for WTNH-8 in the Hartford-New Haven market.
Nwosu began her career at WPRI-12 in Providence, where she served as the station’s first digital journalist. There, Nwosu shot, edited, and produced her own stories in addition to delivering live reports on the air. Within a year at WPRI, she added Weekend Anchor to her duties, staying there for four years, from 2009-2013.
