The E.W. Scripps Co. has appointed the 14-year VP/GM of a station in Lafayette, La., to a similar role for its NBC affiliate in Lexington, Ky.
He starts his new duties in one month.
Andrew Shenkan will take the job on April 6, shifting to the Kentucky market from KATC-TV, which he has led since 2006.
It’s a return to Lexington, as he served as WLEX’s Director of Sales and Marketing from 2002-2005.
“Andrew has a record of leading high-performing teams and a keen understanding of the audiences he will be serving in Lexington,” said Brian Lawlor, Scripps’ President of Local Media. “His deep experience in broadcasting will help drive WLEX’s continued success.”
Prior to his first stint at WLEX, Shenkan held several sales management positions with WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, WCJB in Gainesville, Florida, and WCTI in New Bern, North Carolina. He also worked as an account executive for Blair Television.
“I am very proud of the team at KATC and the great work we accomplished,” said Shenkan. “Heading back to Lexington is an exciting opportunity. I look forward to continuing to live out Scripps’ mission of quality journalism with WLEX.”
Shenkan is a recipient of the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters’ Broadcaster of the Year Award. He is the immediate past chairman of the board for the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.
