With Oxenford As Counsel, An Iowa Operation Tweaks Its Ownership

Centerville, Iowa, is a small city to the southeast of Des Moines, and it is home to a Class C AM with 1 tower putting out 420 watts during daylight hours and 840 watts when it is dark. It enjoys some “FM revitalization” thanks to an FM translator.

The facilities are now set for an ownership evolution, and this sees David Oxenford of Wilkinson Barker Knauer serve as the legal counsel for both parties in this transaction.

KCOG-AM 1400 and K280GY at 103.9 MHz in Centerville, Iowa, are being sold to Honey Creek Broadcasting by the family-owned KCOG Inc., led by President Emil Cazzascia and VP Carolyn Jenkins.

The purchase price is symbolic — just $1. Honey Creek is assuming all of KCOG Inc.’s liabilities.

But, there’s a perfectly logical explanation, as Honey Creek is a three-way partnership between Carolyn Jenkins, Treasurer Frederic Jenkins, and Edwin Brand, the “Designated Chief Operator” for KCOG.

As such, this transaction simply sees Brand becoming a part-owner in the station he’s associated with. And, it will make KCOG a sibling to Honey Creek’s KMGO-FM 98.7 in Centerville, a Country station.

Six local radio stations serve Centerville, all commercially-licensed facilities. Aside from KCOG, the lone AM station easily audible in town is WHO in Des Moines.
