With Herrera-Flanigan’s Exit, Wood Takes NAB TV Board Seat

LOS ANGELES — In February 2005, a partner at a Washington, D.C. law firm departed after 18 years to take the top governmental and regulatory affairs post at one of the nation’s biggest media companies targeting Hispanic consumers.

He’s still at Univision Communications, and based in Southern California.

And, he’s just added an additional role to his resume, thanks to the NAB … and Jessica Herrera-Flanigan.

Chris Wood, the SVP/Associate General Counsel at Univision, has been appointed to the NAB Television Board of Directors.

It’s a move precipitated by the appointment of Ron Estrada to the Washington-based role of SVP and Head of Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility at Univision.

RBR+TVBR on March 12 reported of Estrada’s arrival, and how his arrival is the result of the departure of Herrera-Flanigan, who had been leading those efforts for the company.

Herrera-Flanigan’s exit from Univision resulted in the empty seat on the NAB TV Board, hence Wood’s assumption of her chair.

Where is she going? The NAB disclosed Monday (3/16) that she’s taken a position in the D.C. office of Twitter.

For Wood, taking the NAB TV Board slot makes sense: He advises Univision’s business units on compliance with Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission and Federal Election Commission regulations, and works with Univision’s television and radio stations, broadcast and cable networks, content distribution and government relations teams.

Wood is also chairman of the North American Broadcast Association’s Legal Committee, is a former chairman of the Federal Communications Bar Association Foundation, and was previously a co-chair of the FCBA Mass Media Practice Committee.

Before joining Univision, he was at Fleischman and Walsh (formerly Edwards Wildman), where he counseled broadcast stations and their lenders and investors on FCC rule compliance.

Wood holds a B.A. in Government and Spanish from the University of Virginia in Charlottesvile.
