On January 30, Emmis Communications confirmed that it is exiting one of its most profitable markets. The Indianapolis-based media company is selling heritage Rocker KSHE-FM 94.7and Alternative KPNT-FM 105.7 “The Point” in St. Louis to Hubbard Radio. Concurrently, Emmis is selling its two other St. Louis stations — News/Talk KFTK-FM 97.1 and CHR/Pop KNOU-FM 96.3 to Entercom Communications.
Now comes word that the Director/Sales and GSM for KNOU and KPNT is poised to take on a new role in the Gateway City—one that until now has been handled by a SVP that Entercom inherited from CBS Radio.
Sources close to the matter have confirmed to RBR+TVBR that Becky Domyan will succeed John Sheehan as SVP/GM of Entercom’s St. Louis stations.
An official deal has not yet been reached, however finalization is expected to occur within the next 24 hours.
At present, Entercom’s stations in the market are comprised of heritage News/Talk KMOX-AM 1120, which is also the flagship station of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club and the St. Louis Blues National Hockey League club; Hot AC KYKY-FM, a spillover station for Blues games; and AC KEZK-FM 102.5.
With the January deal, Entercom is bulking up its Talk presence with KFTK — and could rebrand the station to align it with KMOX.
Meanwhile, KNOU will give Entercom a Top 40 property that will compete directly against iHeartMedia’s crosstown KSLZ-FM 107.7.
Domyan ascended to her role for KNOU and KPNT in January 2016 after serving as GSM and Director of Recruiting for the stations—a role she began in October 2008.
She started at Emmis/St. Louis as an account executive for KSHE-FM in February 2006.
For Sheehan, his tenure’s end comes after CBS Radio hired him as market SVP in August 2007; he remained in his role following CBS Radio’s merger with Entercom.
Sheehan’s previous experience was in Kansas City, where he served as VP of Union Broadcasting and Union Sports Marketing and managed KZPL-FM, a startup operation in the market. From 2002-2003, he was SVP/Director of Sales for CBS Radio’s Kansas City cluster.
Sheehan began his career in radio at CBS Radio/Kansas City as an AE, in 1993.
