Winemiller Spins LPTV Properties to Nexstar, Weigel

He’s a prolific buyer and seller of low-power TV stations and has been a highly visible figure at LPTV Broadcasters Association events in Las Vegas tied to the NAB Show of late. Now, Jeff Winemiller is making news for his decision to sell two LPTV properties.

One of the buyers is the parent of the MeTV Network. The other is the nation’s No. 1 owner of broadcast TV stations.

In the first of the two transactions submitted for regulatory approval, Winemiller’s Lowcountry 34 Media is agreeing to sell KHGS-LD 27 in Rifle, Colo. to TV-49 Inc., affiliated with Weigel Broadcasting.

KHGS covers an area of the Rocky Mountain State between Glenwood Springs and Parachute, Colo., to the northeast of Grand Junction.

A $45,000 purchase price has been agreed to by the parties.

Serving as the buyer’s legal counsel is Matthew DelNero of Covington & Burling. The legal counsel representing Winemiller is once again Davina Sashkin of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP.

The much bigger transaction involves Nexstar Media Group, which is agreeing to purchase hyperlocal WMBE-LD 5 serving Myrtle Beach, S.C., from Lowcountry 34.

A $310,000 purchase price has been agreed to between Winemiller and Nexstar, which will presumably use the facility to bring an over-the-air signal for its DMA-wide WBTW-TV in Florence, S.C., to the Grand Strand.

The other future possibility for WMBE-LD is that it becomes an owned-and-operated property for the network Nexstar controls: The CW. At present, The CW can be found on WPDE-15.2, a Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned facility.
