A Jonesboro, Ark., radio broadcasting company is picking up the pieces after vandals tore through a transmitter building, causing extreme damage.

According to local police, two incidents occurred at the structure powering EAB Media Group stations in the Arkansas city — the first on November 1, followed by an incident on November 13.

EAB is the operational name of East Arkansas Broadcasters (EAB) — the radio broadcasting company owned by Bobby Caldwell.

EAB COO Scott Siler shared with KAIT-8 in Jonesboro’s news team that the transmitter site for 1kw Class C KBTM-AM 1230 was severely impacted by the vandalism. “Several pieces of radio equipment were either damaged or destroyed,” he said.

The structure is located just to the east of Arkansas State University, adjacent to the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house.

Federal authorities are likely to be called in to investigate alongside local police. “It is a federal crime with a prison term of 10 years and a fine,” Siler said.
