Will Senate Show Valentine’s Day Love For Gigi Sohn?

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Here it comes: The third confirmation hearing convened by the Senate Commerce Committee for FCC Commissioner nominee Gigi Sohn has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 14.

And, based on the chatter across Capitol Hill, there’s a good chance that the Democratic majority in the upper body of Congress will be voting in the affirmative once the Committee sends Sohn’s nomination to the Senate floor for a full Member vote.

That’s expected to come on Tuesday, unless fierce lobbying against Sohn can sway at least two Democrats and perhaps newly declared independent Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.

Sohn’s nomination hearing is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, and is the only docket item on the schedule. The full Committee is expected to be present, with the hearing to be held in Russel SOB Room 253. Due to limited space, the public is being asked to watch the live stream of the hearing on the Senate Commerce Committee webpage.

The Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee is chaired by Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and its Ranking Member is Mississippi Republican Roger Wicker.

Key Members on the Democratic side include Amy Klobuchar, Jon Tester, Ben Ray Luján, Raphael Warnock and Sinema, who still caucuses with Democrats. Republican Members include John Thune, Marsha Blackburn, Roy Blunt, Jerry Moran, Dan Sullivan, and Ted Cruz.
