In mid-April RBR+TVBR reported on the desire to sell — or close down — an AM-FM combo on the banks of the Mississippi River by Carolyn Becker’s Riverfront Broadcasting of Yankton, S.D. In June, office manager Leah Jones saved the properties by teaming up with a local businessman to buy the stations for $245,000.
Now, 70 miles to the northeast, another AM-FM combo has been sold. The buyer is also locally based, reinforcing Radio’s power as a local medium of choice.
In a deal valued at $168,000 finalized in late August but not filed at the FCC until October 1, WPW Broadcasting is selling WRAM-AM 1330 & W231DA at 94.1 MHz and WMOI-FM 97.7 in Monmouth, Ill.
The buyer is Robbins-Treat Resources, led by Vanessa Wetterling.
A $10,000 escrow deposit has been made by Wetterling’s group to WPW.
There is no broker associated with this transaction.
While Robbins-Treat holds no broadcast licenses, Wetterling has an attributable interest in KWPC-AM, K236CF and KMCS-FM in Muscatine, Iowa and two AMs and two FMs in Illinois — including WMOI.
However, this is an outright sale from WPW to a different entity, hence the Form 314 filing.
