WFSP AM & FM serve a portion of the Morgantown-Clarksburg-Fairmont Arbitron market, and soon they will be doing so under the auspices of a new owner. The combo is licensed to Kingswood WV.
The licensee names leave little to choose from. In those terms, the stations are going from WFSP Inc. to WFSP Radio LLC.
In human terms, they are going from Arthur W. George to David L. Wills.
The price will be $500K, $400K of which is back-loaded via a promissory note. The contract calls for Wills to make a $25K deposit and pay $75K cash at closing.
There is a just-in-case provision as well: Wills is required to take out a life insurance policy naming George as beneficiary, with a big enough pay-off to cover the promissory note debt. In the even the George departs this mortal coil before Wills does, the policy must transfer over to George’s survivors.
WFSP-AM plays Solid Gospel, and is a Class D day-timer on 1560 kHz with 1 kW ND.
WFSP-FM is known as The Oldies Channel and is a Class A on 107.7MHz with 1.8 kW @ 449’.
The AM reaches territory to the southeast of Morgantown. The FM is also located in the same area but actually puts a signal over Morgantown, a feat the AM is not capable of. Neither station reaches either of the other two towns listed in the market’s Arbitron name.
