Weigel Seeks New City of License For Future TV Station

Weigel Broadcasting, the company behind the MeTV network and the owner of the CBS affiliate serving Milwaukee, has filed a petition with the FCC that seeks to adjust the Table of TV allotments — a change that would allow an unbuilt television station to shift its city of license to a small Wisconsin city bordering Shawano Lake.

The petition for rulemaking was first filed in June and amended on September 15. Through Weigel’s TV-49 Inc., it wants future digital channel 31 shifted from Wittenberg, Wisc., to Shawano, Wisc.

The move puts the forthcoming TV station some 29 miles to the east — and closer to Green Bay, Wisc. Conversely, it shifts the property further away from Wausau, Wisc., to the west.

“The Technical Exhibit submitted with the Amended Petition demonstrates that the
proposed allotment of channel 31 at Shawano is mutually exclusive with the current allotment at Wittenberg, and is otherwise in compliance with all of our technical rules,” Video Bureau Chief Barbara Kriesman declared on Friday.

With the proposal warranting discussion, she issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for what is now MB Docket No. 23-336.
