Week 2: FOX see gains w/ 'XFactor' and 'New Girl'

Two full weeks into the 2011-12 broadcast season, FOX remains the only network to post a year-over-year ratings increase among Adults 18-49 versus its performance last Fall.  Thanks to strong Week 2 performances by NEW GIRL and THE X FACTOR and the premiere of new drama TERRA NOVA last week, FOX is up +15% in the core adult demographic to date and FOX ranks #1 among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens so far this Fall.


In addition, following last night’s second telecast of TERRA NOVA, FOX now boasts the three new shows with the highest premiere rating retention of any new series on the Big 4 networks this Fall:

MONDAY
8:00-10:00    TERRA NOVA (P): (Adults 18-49: 3.1/8, 9.2 Mil Total Viewers)

The series debut of TERRA NOVA delivered a 3.1/8 among Adults 18-49, in line with other highly-anticipated dramas this season, like Persons of Interest and Pan Am (both 3.1). 

In addition, with Live +3 DVR viewing factored in, the series premiere rose up to a 4.1 rating, making TERRA NOVA the top-rated new drama of the season.

With the Live + Same Day premiere ratings, TERRA NOVA’s 2-hour premiere improved upon FOX’s 2010/11 Monday average by +29% in Adults 18-49 (3.1 vs. 2.4) and +28% in Total Viewers (9.2 vs. 7.2 Mil.)

In addition, TERRA NOVA held its audience steadily throughout the night with half hour ratings of 3.1/8 > 3.1/8 > 3.1/7 > 3.1/7 in the core adult demo.

TUESDAY

FOX’s comedies won the night in Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.  In fact, FOX more than doubled the delivery of the next highest rated network for the night in Adults 18-34 (+105%, 4.1/12 vs. CBS’ 2.0/6).

At 8p GLEE posted a 3.7/10 among Adults 18-49 and was the highest rated program of the night in Teens. GLEE won its 8p time period among Adults 18-34, Women 18-49/18-34, Men 18-34 (tie) and all Teen breaks and ranked #2 in the hour among Adults 18-49.

Week two of NEW GIRL posted a 4.5/11 among Adults 18-49 and retained 94% of its series debut the previous week, the second-highest week two retention for a new show so far this season on the four networks (behind only FOX’s TERRA NOVA).

NEW GIRL was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

At 9:30p RAISING HOPE delivered a 2.9/7 among Adults 18-49 and won its 9:30p half hour among Adults 18-34 and Teens and ranked #3 in Adults 18-49.

NEW GIRL and RAISING HOPE combined to win the 9p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-10:00    X-FACTOR-WED: (Adults 18-49: 4.1/11, 11.9 Mil Total Viewers)

With week two of THE X FACTOR, FOX won the night among Adults 18-49 —  the first time FOX has won the first two Wednesdays of a broadcast season.  FOX also won the night among Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and Total Viewers.

FOX outperformed the next highest rated network for the night by +21% (4.1 vs. 3.4 for ABC), significantly higher than FOX’s advantage for the night the previous week (+5%).

THE X FACTOR posted a 4.1/11 among Adults 18-49, retaining 93% from the previous week’s debut rating (4.4/12 on 9/21/11).

THE X FACTOR grew every half hour with a +39% gain in its last hour vs. its first among Adults 18-49 (3.3/10 > 4.1/11 > 4.2/11 > 4.6/11).

THURSDAY
8:00-10:00      X-FACTOR-THU: (Adults 18-49: 3.9/11, 12.2 Mil Total Viewers)

With THE X FACTOR, FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and Teens and outperformed the #2 network for the night, CBS by a bigger percentage (+30%) than last Thursday (+19%). 

THE X FACTOR posted a 3.9/11 among Adults 18-49 retaining 95% of its Wednesday performance (3.9 vs. 4.1).  In Total Viewers THE X FACTOR grew +3% from Wednesday (12.2 Mil vs. 11.9 Mil.).

THE X FACTOR grew throughout the night with a +42% gain in its last hour vs. its first among Adults 18-49 (3.1 > 4.1 > 4.1 > 4.4).

THE X FACTOR shows the third-highest rated retention of its first week for the broadcast nets so far this season on the four networks (Wednesday/Thursday, behind only TERRA NOVA and NEW GIRL).

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES posted a 1.7/6 among Adults 18-49, up +6% from its premiere the previous week.

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 outperforming CBS’ A Gifted Man by +42% among Adults 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.2).
FRINGE posted a 1.2/4 and ranked #3 in the hour among Adults 18-49, #2 among Adults 18-34 and #1 among Men 18-34.

Without an NFL lead-in, THE SIMPSONS posted a 3.0/8 among Adults 18-49.  At 8:30p THE CLEVELAND SHOW did a 2.6/6.

At 9p FAMILY GUY delivered a 3.5/8 among Adults 18-49 followed by AMERICAN DAD (2.7/6).
