Yet another music-format bites the dust for spoken word: This time, Entercom is blowing up its WMKK-FM (Mike FM-Adult Hits) to simulcast its sports talker WEEI-AM in Beantown. The morning of 9/8 on the Dennis and Callahan show, WEEI announced it would expand to 93.7FM and begin simulcasting on Monday, 9/12.

WEEI is the largest radio network in New England with eight simulcast stations across the region. The other stations include:
WEEI-FM 103.7 FM, Westerly, Rhode Island
WEEY 93.5 FM, Swanzey, New Hampshire
WEII 96.3 FM, Dennis, Massachusetts
WLOB-FM 95.5, Topsham, Maine
WPEI 95.9 FM, Saco, Maine
WVEI 1440 AM, Worcester, Massachusetts
WVEI-FM 105.5 FM, Easthampton, Massachusetts

“This is an extremely exciting day for our brand, our clients, and most importantly our listeners. It has always been our goal to deliver the most compelling and entertaining brand of sports talk to Boston, and I’m thrilled that we can now present that brand in crystal clear FM,” said WEEI VP/Programming Jason Wolfe.  “20 years ago, WEEI was a single radio station.  Today, WEEI broadcasts across the largest regional radio network in New England, with the most complete lineup of content in sports radio today.  Plus Red Sox radio on FM!  Boston sports fans will love listening to Red Sox play-by-play in crystal clear FM as they drive toward another playoff run.”

WEEI’s Class B FM signal (34,000 watts @ 587 ft) will cover many areas where 850AM is spotty, especially at night. The station will now be heard without interruption in Southern New Hampshire, Merrimack Valley, and most importantly in MetroWest and into Worcester (Middlesex, Hillsborough, Worcester counties).

Entercom recently launched 95.7 The Game, an FM Sports Station in San Francisco, and just this Tuesday, WIP in Philadelphia began simulcasting on FM.
