LOS ANGELES — Across the broadcast television landscape, stations have invested heavily in local news expansion, with new studios and added hours of coverage being seen in markets across the U.S.

Now, the world’s largest media company producing content in Spanish is widening the amount of local newscasts en español for viewers in four DMAs — including L.A.

TelevisaUnivision has given the green light to new live local news programs in Los Angeles, Atlanta and in both Phoenix and Houston, starting Tuesday afternoon (3/5).

For those in Arizona, a 30-minute local newscast will be seen at 4pm, while in the Atlanta and L.A. markets a 5pm-5:30pm noticiero will air.

And, in all cases, it is the UniMás owned-and-operated property that will air the local newscasts, as the Univision-affiliated sibling airs network programming.

TelevisaUnivision SVP/Local News Carlos Diaz de la Fuente commented, “Our commitment to providing localized news content remains unwavering. These new news shows will feature local content that resonates with our audiences, ensuring they stay connected to the issues that directly impact their lives. As we live a year of election cycles, these news shows will serve our audience locally, providing crucial information to help them make informed decisions.”

In Atlanta, the newscasts will air on WUVG-34 and feature anchor Jorge Buzo.

In L.A., it is KFTR-46 that will feature Octavio Valdez at the anchor desk.

For the state of Arizona, León Felipe Gonzalez and Heidi Renpenning for KFPH-13 in Flagstaff, Ariz., which is rebroadcast as “UniMás 35” in Phoenix and “UniMás 34” in Tucson.

The live local news programs will air exclusively on each UniMás local channel, suggesting they will not be available on the ViX OTT platform or online.
