Lockwood Broadcast Group, which operates 12 television stations across the U.S., has given its General Manager in Charlottesville, Va., additional duties as it fills its newly created position of Corporate Director of News.

Earning the promotion is Mark Kurtz, who retains his GM post at dual CBS/FOX affiliate WCAV-19 in Charlottesville, Va.

Kurtz brings over twenty years of experience to his new position.

“I started my career as a reporter and anchor in Waco at KXXV-TV before moving into management as a news director at KWES-TV in Midland,” he says of his Texas experience to start his career. “In 2012 I made the move to Hampton Roads, Virginia at WAVY-TV as Assistant News Director and then News Director. In 2021, I moved to Charlottesville and joined the Lockwood Broadcast Group.”

That was in 2021.

Kurtz continued, “I am excited and honored to work with our news departments across the
country. Lockwood Broadcast Group knows strong local news operations are integral to
healthy, thriving communities. I am looking forward to helping our teams grow their news
products and expand how they serve their viewers.”

Lockwood’s stations are comprised of broadcast stations in Norfolk; Panama City, Fla.; Wichita; Knoxville; Augusta, Ga.; Dothan, Ala.; Denison, Tex.; and WCAV-19.

The company is led by President Dave Hanna, who said, “By building up our group of stations in Charlottesville, Mark has made a significant impact on our company. He is an extremely talented broadcaster and this promotion allows us to lean into his experience leading newsrooms in multiple competitive markets. Mark is a hands-on leader and we look forward to seeing him grow our overall news operations across all Lockwood stations.”
