TuneIn Gets An OEM Deal With Nissan

TORONTO — It’s now owned by Stingray, the company providing all-music channels to MVPDs in the U.S. such as Hotwire Communications while operating such highly regarded radio properties in Canada as CHBM “Boom 97.3” in Toronto.

And, Stingray is wasting no time reaching fresh OEM deals for its TuneIn brand with one major automotive company.

The new “collaboration” is with Nissan, and it puts the TuneIn app in a predominant dashboard position in “select” Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in the U.S.; Canadian vehicles were not noted in the announcement from Stingray made on Wednesday.

This will bring a wide variety of broadcast radio station streams and several podcasts to those in these Nissan North America vehicles equipped with Google built-in.

“Drivers want access to the audio they love the moment they start the car,” said TuneIn CEO Rich Stern. “By bringing the full TuneIn experience directly into Nissan’s infotainment system, we’re eliminating friction and giving listeners a safer, faster way to enjoy live sports, trusted news, music and podcasts on every drive.”

In making the announcement, TuneIn played up its audio access to live play-by-play of “major professional leagues” —something SiriusXM has made a signature offering of its subscription-based service packages.
