Tom Gentry celebrates 50 years in radio

Gentry, GM, of WHVN, 1240 AM/104.3 FM and HD2, WCGC, 1270 AM and WAVO 1150 AM in Charlotte, NC, tells RBR-TVBR this year marks his 50th year in Broadcasting.  “My first paid job was at Charlotte’s WIST Radio, in 1963.  I’ve actively managed the stations listed below for many years. I hope I don’t jinx myself by sharing this, but during those fifty years, in what can be a fickle business, I’ve never been fired!  I’m thinking that could be some kind of a record!? Firing could happen tomorrow … but so far, so good! I feel blessed to have worked for 50-years in a business which still seems more like an extension of a hobby.  The last forty of my working years have been spent with WHVN, Inc., in Charlotte.”
