A Class C3 facility located just north of the Saginaw-Bay City, Mich., market is trading hands. However, there’s likely one “promise” that current listeners to this facility’s Christian-themed programming may not like. That’s because the station is set to switch from noncomm to commercial status, and become a sibling to an AM/FM combo in this non-rated city.
Carroll Enterprises, a Michigan-based nonprofit, is acquiring WHST-FM in Tawas City, Mich., from Northern Christian Radio Inc. for $175,000.
The buyer is making a $9,000 deposit, with Fletcher Heald & Hildreth serving as escrow agent.
Carroll is the owner of Class D Talker WIOS-AM 1480 and Country Class C2 WKJC-FM 104.7 in Tawas City, in addition to Class C2 WKJZ-FM 94.9, licensed to Hillman, Mich., well to the north of Tawas City.
However, WKJZ is simulcast in Tawas City on Class C3 WQLB-FM 103.3, which is owned by the John J. Carroll Inter Vivos Trust — the 75% stockholder of Carroll Enterprises.
With the purchase of WHST, Carroll would have common ownership of three FMs and one AM, as determined by the contour overlap method. Based on this test, Carroll remains within FCC subcap ownership limits.

- Rowan College at Burlington County, in New Jersey, is selling FM translator W264BH at 100.7 MHz in Mt. Holly, N.J., to Spectrum Development Group for $125,000. A $25,000 deposit has been made by Spectrum to the college. There is no finder or broker associated with this transaction. W264BH rebroacasts an HD multicast signal tied to WPST-FM in Trenton, N.J.
- Grace Public Radio is acquiring FM translator K261CR at 100.1 MHz in Chickasha, Okla., from Cameron University, by way of the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma. The purchase price is $25,000, and a $1,000 downpayment has been made by Grace to the school. The remainder will be paid via a Promissory Note. There is no broker associated with this transaction. Cameron was represented by Cary Tepper of the Tepper Law Firm. Grace’s legal counsel in this deal was Dan J. Alpert. This translator rebroadcasts a multicast signal based at KRXO-FM in Oklahoma City.
- Refuge Media Group, operator of Christian Rock noncomm “The Remnant,” is selling FM translator W219DT at 91.7 MHz in North Branch, Minn., to Maranatha Assembly of God Church for $50,000. The buyer is represented by Phoenix Media Group, which is receiving 10% of the purchase price as commission. Maranatha’s legal counsel in this transaction was David O’Connor of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP.
