TelevisaUnivision is cheering recognition in this year’s GLAAD Media Awards for “Outstanding Spanish-Language TV Journalism,” for a report that aired on one of its signature Univision Network news programs.

It also received “special recognition” honors for a program available on its OTT platform, ViX.

TelevisaUnivision’s brands Univision and Univision.com received a total of seven nominations in two categories — for Outstanding Spanish-Language TV Journalism, and for Outstanding Spanish-Language Online Journalism Article.

The GLAAD Media Awards acknowledge media for “their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives.”

“At TelevisaUnivision, we work to empower the Hispanic community to succeed, using our platforms to give voice and visibility so everyone can be seen and represented,” said Teri Arvesu, Sr. VP for Social Impact and Sustainability at TelevisaUnivision. “We put all our efforts into telling the stories of LGBTQ+ Latinos and celebrating this diverse community all year round.”

TelevisaUnivision was honored on Thursday (3/30) at an award ceremony in Los Angeles.

The “Outstanding Spanish-Language TV Journalism” was presented in recognition of a Primer Impacto piece on non-binary Puerto Rican actor Vico Ortiz.

In the piece, Ortiz speaks about playing a real-life historical figure of a non-binary pirate on the comedy show and reveals the process of coming into their own sexuality.

The Special Recognition honor, specifically for Spanish-Language, was presented for “En Sus Palabras.”

An eleven-episode series, “En Sus Palabras” offers an in-depth look at Latino leaders, advocates and personalities who have made significant strides and contributions while breaking barriers in our culture. “These stories celebrate people in various industries whose actions are having positive effects on society, and they demonstrate resilience and courage when sharing their journey of overcoming adversity, offering an inspirational message of hope that motivates positive change,” TelevisaUnivision said.
