MIAMI — It seems Gray Television isn’t the only broadcast television station owner that is helping bring NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Spanish-language network to new markets, expanding its national footprint.

Cox Media Group has agreed to bring the home of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Olympics en español to the Pacific Northwest’s biggest DMA and to one of the fastest-growing markets in the Southeast.

The Atlanta-based company controlled by Apollo Global Management has agreed to place Telemundo on KIRO-7 in Seattle’s HD2 channel, and on the HD2 channel for WJAX-47 in Jacksonville.

The news comes as CMG renews its Telemundo agreement for coverage on a digital multicast channel associated with WSOC-9 in Charlotte.

“CMG is excited to grow our relationship with Telemundo to provide a wide array of important programming to underserved Hispanic audiences in Jacksonville and Seattle,” said Paul Curran, the EVP of TV for Cox Media Group. “Our Telemundo affiliate in Charlotte has been a tremendous success. Bringing on these two new markets fits perfectly with our mission to inform, entertain and elevate the viewers and communities we serve.”
