GOLDEN VALLEY, MINN. — The NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves will see five of their home games across the 2023-2024 season air on the NBC affiliate serving the Twin Cities owned by TEGNA.
It’s the latest instance where pro sports play-by-play is heading to a free over-the-air television home at time when cord-cutting and cost-trimming is high.
KARE-11, TEGNA’s NBC affiliate serving the Twin Cities, and FanDuel Sports Network are partnering to simulcast five home games this season.
This marks the first time the Timberwolves have aired on local, free over-the-air television since 2012. And, it marks the first time the team’s games will be seen on KARE-11 since 2000-2001, when a nine-year run ended.
KARE-11 will also simulcast FanDuel Sports Network’s “Wolves Live” before and after every game. The program is hosted by Marney Gellner and features analysis from current Minnesota Lynx assistant coach Rebekkah Brunson and Kevin Lynch.
Game action will continue to be called by Timberwolves play-by-play announcer Michael Grady and color analyst Jim Petersen.
