T-Wolves Go With WCCO For Audio Play-By-Play

“The Fan” will no longer be the official radio home of the National Basketball Association club that calls the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul home. And, in a move that makes the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act‘s pending Senate vote ever more urgent, the team’s new flagship is on the kHz band — thanks to a score from Audacy Inc.

With the upcoming start of the 2026-2027 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have exited iHeartMedia’s KFXN-FM — the market’s big No. 1 radio station based on the most recent Nielsen Audio data. The games will now be heard on Audacy’s WCCO-AM 830.

It’s a return to the Class A clear-channel giant, which at night can be heard across much of the eastern United States. Timberwolves games aired on WCCO-AM from the 2011-2012 season through the 2022-2023 season, when iHeartMedia picked up a three-year agreement.

Notably, WCCO has no FM radio simulcast partner.

The Wolves’ return to WCCO includes the continued services of 20-year play-by-play announcer Alan Horton.

“We couldn’t be more excited to return to WCCO Radio,” said Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Strategy Officer Kelly Laferriere. “WCCO’s longstanding connection with fans throughout Minnesota makes it an ideal home for Timberwolves basketball, and we look forward to sharing another exciting season with listeners across the region.”

For Audacy Regional President Debbie Kenyon, “There’s something special about hearing Minnesota basketball on the station that has been part of this community for generations, and we can’t wait to provide fans a front-row seat to all the energy, excitement and drama of another great Wolves season.”

The Timberwolves also renewed its partnership with Learfield IMG College to expand reach with affiliate partners throughout Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
