Among the more colorful entrepreneurs in broadcast media is Frank Copsidas, an individual well-known across New England who is now leading the recently launched LPTV Broadcasters Association.
Copsidas has bought and sold many LPTVs. Now, he’s spinning a property licensed to a town of less than 2,000 in the Deep South. The buyer? Gray Television.
It’s just spent $500,000 for a low-power TV station licensed to Bruce, Miss.
The seller of WYMP is 5GTV LLC, a Copsidas-led licensee.
What does Gray have planned for WYMP-LD? A company representative tells RBR+TVBR that WYMP is poised to become a repeater of nearby NBC affiliate WMC-5 in Memphis, providing fill-in service in areas where over-the-air reception is weak.
WYMP-LD uses virtual channel 7 and is on digital channel 14.
At present, WYMP is within the Columbus-Tupelo-West Point, Ms., DMA.
But, that’s not staying the case for long. WYMP has a Construction Permit for a move to another Mississippi town, one within the Memphis DMA.
