Courtney-JonesStreaming is not the death of radio, several presenters told programmers attending the Nielsen Client Conference Thursday.

The event here at National Harbor along Washington’s Potomac River drew some 200 attendees, Nielsen tells RBR+TVBR.

Unlike TV, whose audience is being drawn away by video and streamed programming, the radio audience is stable. Nielsen VP Audience Insights Jon Miller said there’s a battleground for the consumer’s attention. Urban formats tend to have higher days of usage compared to general formats, he said.

Courtney Jones, VP Multicultural Growth and Strategy at Nielsen, said Urban music fans are more likely to discover music in video games than are listeners of other genres. Overall, 63% these listeners still discover the majority of their music through AM/FM and satellite radio and 58% from friends and family.
