Spotify’s expansion of its AI-driven Prompted Playlist feature to include podcasts alongside music is the latest exhibit in Connoisseur Media CEO Jeff Warshaw’s push to convince the FCC that digital audio platforms now compete directly with broadcast radio and that local ownership rules should be scrapped entirely as a result.
Warshaw filed supplemental comments on May 21 in the FCC’s 2022 Quadrennial Review proceeding, updating the record with audience measurement data and platform developments that he argues the Commission can no longer treat as peripheral to its ownership analysis.
The Spotify development, announced in April, is central to Warshaw’s argument.
