Spot Cable: Where Auto Insurers Still Rule

If there was any question as to whether or not some brands would pull back their spot cable efforts in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, one need only look at the latest Spot Ten Cable report from Media Monitors.

The top three slots neither involve the NAB’s COVID-19 effort nor the Census Bureau. Rather, they involve auto insurance giants.

For the week ending April 12, Liberty Mutual Insurance, GEICO and Progressive are the big 1-2-3 on the latest Media Monitors report.

Further, QSR Burger King is now No. 4, as drive-through opportunities temporarily restructure the entire restaurant business.

Then, there’s the shift from theatres to home video of new releases, and the release this past weekend of the well-reviewed Trolls World Tour animated film resulted in some 34,278 spots airing on cable networks last week, ahead of the download availability date.

Speaking of COVID-19, the NAB’s cross-platform effort certainly includes cable: It’s now at No. 10, rising from No. 30 for the week ending April 5.
