Since early July, DISH Network and its Sling TV over-the-top (OTT) “skinny bundle” have been forced to “black out” all owned and affiliated Univision and UniMás stations, in addition to the MVPD-distributed Galavisión. The inability to reach a new retransmission agreement led DISH to lose subscribers, and offer bill credits. On Nov. 13, the situation worsened as FOROtv, TLNovelas, Univision Deportes Network and El Rey Network were dropped as a separate retrans agreement covering those channels couldn’t get finalized.
DISH and Sling TV have been working hard to fill the Spanish-language void. Discovery Communications is now helping out, thanks to a wider pact reached with Sling.
