MIAMI BEACH, FLA. — SiriusXM has unveiled plans that will see the 2023 opening of a broadcast center on a busy stretch of one of the world’s most popular entertainment and holiday destinations.
The satellite radio company, which presently has an operations center in Deerfield Beach, Fla., on Tuesday (10/11) confirmed that it will open a “state-of-the-art” broadcast center featuring a 50-seat performance place and several “artist-first radio” and recording studios, in addition to office space, in South Beach.
Specifically, SiriusXM is taking a space at 2340 Collins Avenue, another of Miami Beach’s newly constructed towers in an area of the city that is walking distance to 1 Hotel South Beach, The W and the Bass Museum. The building is the home of Starwood Capital Group, and SiriusXM says it plans to open the South Beach space next year.
Once open, the Miami Beach hub will join broadcast facilities including its Rockefeller Center headquarters in New York; its West Hollywood, Calif., performance space and studios; and studios and offices in both Nashville and Washington, D.C., a last legacy to the original XM Satellite Radio.
“The SiriusXM studios will be a mecca for talent on promotional tours in the area,” SiriusXM said. The Miami Beach of today is a vibrant center for hip-hop and Latin pop and reggaetón music and culture. “The studios and programming will celebrate the city’s rich Hispanic and Latinx culture with exclusive live performances, broadcasts, podcasts and events. The studios will be utilized by the company’s entire slate of audio entertainment brands including Pandora and Stitcher.”
SiriusXM President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein said, “We are excited to open our new SiriusXM Miami broadcast complex in 2023 and deepen our ties in such a multicultural and entertainment-rich city. Our Miami facility will feature a world-class performance space for our special events, such as our Small Stage Series, and its artist-first recording studios will be a destination for both major stars and emerging personalities to connect with listeners.”
To preview the new space, SiriusXM hosted students from the SLAM! charter school and, interestingly, the Mayor of the City of Miami, Frances Suarez, for a tour of the new facility.
Miami Beach has its own Mayor, while the Mayor of Miami-Dade County has the ultimate leadership role in both cities.
The charter school, SLAM!, produces a full-time radio channel available nationally as part of SiriusXM’s Project Amplify program, which identifies and elevates original programming from diverse viewpoints and targets historically underserved audiences. SLAM! Radio launched in December 2018 and is the first and only national radio channel in the U.S. programmed and hosted by students. The channel is part of the Sports Leadership Arts and Management (SLAM) charter school network, which was co-founded by rapper Pitbull, whose legal name is Armando Christian Perez.
Further details on the SiriusXM Miami studios, including an opening date, programming, and special events, will be announced at a later date.
