Western North Carolina has made progress from the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Helene at the end of September. Still, there’s a long road ahead, and a new 90-minute documentary produced by the news team of a Sinclair Inc. TV station in Asheville chronicles “the journey back.”

WLOS-13, the ABC affiliate for Greenville-Spartanburg/Asheville DMA, has brought “A Long Road: The Journey Back from Hurricane Helene” to its YouTube Channel.

The film chronicles the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on the region through the eyes of survivors, first responders, and families who have lost everything.

Produced by David Saich and Matt Yates, “A Long Road” is the result of months of work and the careful review of hundreds of hours of footage. The documentary weaves together raw, emotional accounts with compelling visuals to tell a story not just of destruction—but of resilience, recovery, and the human spirit, WLOS shares. “From gripping rescues to quiet moments of grief and community rebuilding, the film captures both the magnitude of the storm and the strength of those who endured it.”
