It’s a free, ad-supported app owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group that offers access to live and on-demand newscasts from its own stations and partner broadcasters from more than 165 DMAs across the U.S.
As of today, it is the latest built-in app to appear on Samsung Smart TVs.
NewsON, with addressable advertising pre-roll and in-newscast opportunities for marketers, is now directly accessible to owners of the Samsung television sets.
The announcement from Sinclair-owned NewsON comes following the completion of the relaunch and redesign of its product offering across supported platforms including Roku player, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and iOS and Android app versions.
It features an enhanced user experience with streamlined navigation to live and on-demand newscasts.
NewsON also announced the addition of a web-based product providing consumers another way to connect with local news wherever they are, via NewsON.us.
For viewers in the nation’s biggest markets, however, access to local news is difficult. The only New York DMA offering on NewsON is “News12,” the Altice USA-owned service available on all MVPDs in the market. As such, no “Big Four” O&O stations are on NewsOn.
In other markets, stations owned by Gray Television, Nexstar Media Group and The E.W. Scripps Co. are also absent from NewsON.
But, Hearst Television is a NewsON partner, as is TEGNA.
